Asfordby Parish Arts Garden Produce and Crafts Show September 2020

The committee would like to pass on there best wishes to all and hope you are keeping safe and well in these challenging times.

With most shows there is a large amount of work that goes on in preparation starting some months beforehand. Under the current lockdown conditions this work has been delayed. We have now reached the time we’re a decision has to be made as further delay would have an impact on the show.

The committee have reviewed the possibility of the show continuing this year, taking into consideration the current government guidelines and the responsibility of keeping everyone safe. Each committee member was given an opportunity to vote (via correspondence). The decision was that the show should not go ahead by a unanimous vote. This years show has therefore been cancelled.

We will see you all next year hopefully under less stressful conditions.

sixth asfordby show a great success

Well our sixth show has been and gone, so very quickly.  Although some of the entries were down on last year the show was very well supported and attended.

We take our hats off to the exhibitors of flowers, fruit and vegetables who managed to enter first class exhibits after what has been a challenging growing year. The standard of all other classes was again outstanding, the judges were greatly impressed.

Once again one of the highlights was the exhibits by the children of the village, these included:Captains Close School, Rainbows, Jean Kemps Group, and individual entries.

To be able to put on a show of this nature each year requires a band of people who give their time freely, these include: The group of independent judges, some off who travel considerable miles without remuneration. Our group of local helpers and volunteers who help with delivering flyers, preparing the hall, setting up and running the tombola and raffle etc and not forgetting the ladies who serve and make the food, teas and lovely cakes, to them all and any we haven’t mentioned a very big thank you.

The committee would also like to thank all exhibitors for taking part and to congratulate all the winners, we look forward to seeing you all next year, hopefully with a better growing year?

We have one unclaimed raffle prize, unfortunately with no identification so if you have raffle ticket number 624 then please contact us via our email address.

If you have any suggestions, ideas or concerns about the show then please use this website or our email address to contact us. Once again thank you all for the support that you give us.

General Meeting notes – 6th September 2017

Update of some of the discussions that took place at the meeting held on the 6th September at Bradgate Flats (this is not the minutes.)

Correspondence has been received from one of our judges Mrs Burton, who unfortunately due to a health problem is not able to judge at this year’s show.  A card of thanks and get well will be sent from the committee.  Mrs Manship, who is one of our current judges, has agreed to include Mrs Burtons classes with her own.

Another of our long standing committee members and judges Mrs Eggleston has also had to pull out of her duties at this year’s show, the committee will contact her with our best wishes and express our gratitude for all she has done in the past, hopefully we will see her again soon.

Also Emma Lovegrove has resigned from the committee due to other commitments, once again the committee expressed their gratitude for all the work she has done especially around the children's section, we hope she may still be able to send us ideas in the future.

A review of the finances was given which indicated we are in a healthy state going into the show. Wereviewed the cost of this website and agreed to evaluate over the year its effectiveness by looking into the use of the website by other local groups in order to reach a wider audience.

A review of the preparation for this year’s show was then discussed and it seems that all is going well, although there is always room for more help and donations on the day. Posters and banners are now all mostly up around the three villages of Asfordby and also Hoby. The raffle hamper contents are doing well with more promises of items given and any further donations for the show or the raffle itself will be gratefully received. The tombola prizes are also looking good but more are needed, so again if you have any unwanted items please let us know. We decided to look into the possibility this year of rotating the different groups around the hall in order to give a fresh look to the layout.

We are discussing the idea into launching a competition for our schools to design a logo for the show that can be used on the front cover of the schedule so watch this space.  All ideas and suggestions will be welcomed.

At the close of meeting we were surprised when our Chairman and Co-Founding member Mick Naylor announced his intention to stand down from his post and the committee at the AGM in October, the committee accepted his wishes and thanked him very much for all his time and effort over the past 5 years, he also assured us that he will still continue to support the show.

Lastly don't forget the show on Saturday 16th this is your show so come along and enjoy it, even have a go and enter, there are plenty of categories to suit all and you may be surprised.
